Brad L. Peterson, MA A Pacific Northwest native and registered Counselor in WA State, earned his Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies, with an emphasis in Family Ministries from Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, OR. He has a second Master of Arts (Counseling) from Western Seminary. Brad has over 15 years of pastoral church ministry experience and began his professional counseling career in 2002. Brad is a Board Certified Christian Counselor by the International Board of Christian Counselors through the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Ministry Experience: Since beginning his formal education at Multnomah Bible College in 1990, Brad has been consistently involved in full or part-time pastoral ministry here in the Pacific Northwest, as well as in Queens, New York. He has also served with his local church, Bible-College, and Youth With A Mission (YWAM), on short-term missions trips to Mexico, France, Hong Kong, and China. He and his wife assisted in a church-plant effort in NW Portland for 3 years and have served on the pastoral staff in three, Asian-American congregations until as recently as December 2007. In 2002, Brad founded NW Christian Counseling Resources, a non-profit ministry designed to better network churches and Christian leaders with local, Christian counseling resources.

 

 

Counseling Experience: Brad is a current member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW). He has been a registered counselor in WA State since 2002, and began his professional counseling career in the areas of domestic violence and anger management. He now holds the highest level of certification in WA State to treat perpetrators of domestic violence and created “A New Man” and “A New Woman” abuse prevention programs. Each is a WA State Certified Domestic Violence Perpetrator Treatment Program that is designed to meet the culturally-specific needs of those perpetrators who identify with a Christian faith and seek to overcome their abusive and controlling behaviors. As Program Supervisor, he provides individual intake and assessment sessions, facilitates weekly treatment groups, trains and supervises direct treatment staff, participates in continuing education and non-violence task forces, and offers community outreach to victims of domestic violence.

Since beginning A New Life Christian Counseling in January 2005, Brad has also counseled many individuals and couples (marital and pre-marital) with a variety of personal, emotional, relational, and spiritual needs. In addition to his expertise in domestic violence and anger management, he has received specialized training in the integration of spirituality and mental health, couples communication, sexual addiction, and suicide prevention. He also helped to establish and remains a member of the board of directors of PureHeart Ministries, a recovery group for men struggling with unwanted sexual habits and/or addictions.
