Valinda graduated from Cal State Northridge, became a certified Pastoral Counselor, and served for 20 years as a Family Pastor. She then earned a Masters in Psychology-Professional Counseling from Southeastern University (SEU) and is now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in WA State. She meets the high standards of a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC), is a certified Marriage Counselor and a Parenting Coach. Valinda has also been a professor of psychology and counseling at SEU.
Valinda Harlan is a native Californian where she provided pastoral counseling and led children and family ministries for 15 years at Vineyard Christian Fellowship. She moved to Florida with her husband and four children where she continued to serve as a Family Pastor for Oasis Community Church. Valinda has written curriculum and taught workshops and seminars on parenting, marriage enrichment, healthy sexuality (A Guide for Parents), and has had her material published in Children's Ministry and Christian Women magazine. Valinda is experienced as a public speaker and has been on expert panels in various church and college settings.
Valinda has over 25 combined years as a pastoral and professional counselor. Her specialty is in addressing relationship problems, improving sexual wellness, women's/maternal mental health, infidelity, improving communication and resolving conflict, and addressing emotional and sexual intimacy issues.
Valinda is educated in LGBTQ+ matters and can work with individuals and family members regarding gender and sexuality. She also helps clients recover from sexual abuse and other childhood traumas. Valinda is certified in pre-marriage and marriage counseling through Prepare-Enrich and additional training by the Gottman Institute of Marriage and Emotionally Focused Marriage Therapy.
For over 20 years, Valinda has led support groups for women, helping them cope with life's stressors, including grief, pre & postpartum depression, and anxiety. She enjoys working with families and encouraging and equipping parents. Valinda has earned a certificate in Parent Coaching from Pepperdine University and studied child therapy at Northwest Center for Play Therapy.
Valinda is comfortable incorporating prayer and other spiritual practices at the request of the client. Her goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where the Holy Spirit can work to help people live in the fullness that God has for them. She loves what she does and is committed to helping others HEAL from the past, CHANGE the present, and find HOPE for a better future.
