Katie comes to the field of counseling with a diverse background. For many years she has worked in the educational field and found enjoyment in connecting with teenagers and young adults. She has also had the privilege of working at a summer camp for kids to help lead a team responsible for feeding hundreds of young people each week. For volunteer opportunities she has been able to work for the last 11 years with middle school and high school students in her church youth group. She finds great enjoyment in coaching people; whether it be young athletes on the volleyball or basketball courts, or recreationalists conquering a challenging hiking trail up a mountain, encouraging others is a way of life for her. Whether being paid or volunteering, the common factor is the enjoyment found in relating with people and appreciating their diversity!
Katie appreciates that each person has their own unique story. People often find clarity and direction in being able to share their life experiences. Katie finds satisfaction in listening to people tell their stories and in helping people of all ages and backgrounds define the parts of their story they would like to change to find healing and freedom. Katie's own unique journey helps her to think through creative solutions in collaboration with her clients. She draws on techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and narrative therapy. Due to the complexity of life’s challenges, people often benefit from the use of multiple approaches. Authentically listening to people and walking with them to help them discover ways of not just dealing with but growing and learning from life’s adversities can be extremely rewarding for all involved.
